In May 2026 the Münchener Biennale celebrates its 20th edition!

With artistic directors Katrin Beck and Manuela Kerer at the helm, this festival for new music theatre will present international premieres, introduce new perspectives on our present-day and invite audiences as well as artists to participate in encounters, dialogue and discoveries.

We look forward to welcoming all participating artists and visitors!

Participants (m/f/d, ages 16-99, amateurs and professionals) from the fields of music and/or martial arts welcome to join the SOUNDING BODIES workshop project on 23/01—25/01/2026, in Munich

Music meets martial arts! Be part of this playful, experimental encounter and join other instrumentalists, martial artists, and combat sports enthusiasts in imagining new forms between sound and movement.

The workshop is led by the artistic team behind the production XOCHIYAOYOTL (composition: Maximiliano Soto Mayorga, staging: Amauta García and Davíd Camargo), which will premiere on 13/05/2026 as part of Münchener Biennale. Together with the workshop participants, the team reflects on performative ideas and concepts of the body for their own artistic work.

CAMPUS MB026 is the exchange and networking format for students and practitioners as part of the MÜNCHENER BIENNALE – FESTIVAL FÜR NEUES MUSIKTHEATER.

What new forms of thinking, working, and communicating does contemporary music theatre need? How do artists work together in interdisciplinary and collaborative ways? What role do specific spaces, occasions, and audiences play? How can we develop formats that not only perform but also listen and enable artistic forms of participa-tion?

In May 2026, the Münchener Biennale warmly invites students, lec-turers, and professionals to CAMPUS MB026. This multi-day ex-change and networking format brings together different disciplines and professions through the shared experience and discussion of new music theatre

The Münchener Biennale will, for the first time, feature a programme specifically aimed at schools. To inform interested groups about this offer, we warmly invite you to our “MB Lunch Break”.

At our “MB Lunch Break”, you will meet the Biennale’s Artistic Directors, Manuela Kerer and Katrin Beck, who will present the programme to you. You will also learn first-hand about the educational and accompanying activities available to you and your classes.
